Blights
Now, we're all aware that gods have complete and utter control over their domains; Grey escorts all souls to the afterlife, Rhavi manages the sands of Time, Dipuc distributes love and emotions the world over. The Big 20 (and many of the lesser gods) hold unimaginable power within their hands, But the Big 20 is who I'd like to speak of now, for they are the controllers of Reality for lack of a better term. If Grey were to fall, Death would cease to be. If Rhavi passed, Time would become erratic and chaotic until another took his place. Ailent, god of matter, Chaze, god of magic and technology. They all have specific, vital domains and roles in upholding the world.
But all the gods were once mortal. They all once tread upon the soil just as we do. All of them Taken, Plucked from the end of the world to go through and shehpard forward a new history for the planet, from beginning to end. But there is a key point in what I just said; They are mortal. They were human (with the exception of Ailent), they all make mistakes, they all feel. Since ascending into their divine status, perhaps the biggest change that's overcome them has been the reigning in of wild emotions, focusing of their thoughts, the creation and building of complete, utter control over themselves so they might contain the forces they marshall.
But what happens when a god loses control? When one of the Twenty exhibits a loss of composure, of bearing, and allows their domain to run free for a brief time?
Halloween and myself have been speaking, and we've discussed this topic extensively. After months of talk, we're prepared, finally, to share these thoughts.
We call them Blights. An area of the planet that has been smote down with the gods domain in an uncontrolled form. The effects of the blight depends on the god (or Domain) in question. For some, it's simple and non-destructive; Chaze's blight, for example, manifests itself as a complete murdering of magical energy. For a good portion of the nation of Blue, Magic not only doesn't exist, but CANNOT exist. Constructs and beings who depend on magic to sustain themselves grow weaker in this area, they fall apart, unable to maintain their energy as it's sucked into the æther. This effect is apparent when going into the settlements and cities of this area. Most of the world sees commonplace use of Magic, but here, Technology has developed to a point to be comparable to the mid-1800's. Steam Engines see heavy use, refineries blaze along rivers and in mountains, simple vehicles roam the streets. This area of the nation is also very knowledgeable in the sciences such as medicine, due to the lack of Sorcerous healers.
But that is a benign example. Let's say that Rhavi loses his composure, or undergoes a breakdown. How might wild currents of time affect an area, or more importantly, those existing in an area? The discussions we've had paint a bleak image. Imagine, if you will, a city. As you watch from the outside, a man walks across a street from building to building. As you gaze on, he seems to "blink" out of existence, only to reappear again leaving another home on the street. The difference is that he's been aged to a venerable age in the blink of an eye, as if 40 years were poured into him instantaneously. Continuing your observations, you watch a group of children running down the road, playing a game of catch. The ball blurs mid-air, jumping rapidly through several positions, before ending up in the arms of the child who threw it. A woman, laden with produce, exits a market. She begins her walk down the road, before screaming in sudden agony and spilling her goods along the path. The reason for the scream is simple, a structure that had yet to be built had manifested, the stone fusing with the flesh of her arm. These sound progressively worse, but these are merely the outskirts of the Blight. As you move towards the origin, time begins to pass at different rates (and often different directions) across different parts of your body. Your leg may grow weak and sore with old age even as your arm shrank into that of an infant, your face being speckled with the pockmarks of puberty. A finger may be struck with a thousand years and rot into dust, or a foot may unbirth itself.
I think that example paints enough of a picture of blights. They are regions of chaos, of uncertainty. Regions of danger and death. The laws of reality in these areas are wrong, are twisted into themselves in a Gordian Knot that only the god who caused it may hope to understand.

Re: Blights
None of us enjoy speaking of it, Brother. However, ignoring it doesn't make it go away, and the population needs to know of the dangers.
